Dear OWL Members,
In an August 2nd meeting, the OWL Board of Directors made the reluctant decision to cancel our luncheon. When the meeting adjourned, I put on the TV news and found it full of information and warnings about the increase in infections of COVID-19 as the delta variant spreads.  It appears that we made the correct decision.
A while back (I do not remember exactly when), we had a wonderful time gathering at the Jannah restaurant which had made a special arrangement for us. Eating, talking, laughing together, enjoying the delicious Middle Eastern food served by an amiable waitstaff, being entertained by two women singing original compositions, all in an attractive setting made us eager to return.  Alas, it is not to be right now.  We hope for a later date for this delightful time together.
The Board members urge everyone to patronize this local business which has been so willing to be supportive of OWL.  Call Jannah to order pick up or delivery or stop by to eat in their lovely backyard space (a parklet but not on the street). You can also order online at orderjannah.com.

Seasoned Voices: Telling Our Stories, Sharing Our Insights on June 26, 2021, 11 AM to Noon

Women’s voices are important in today’s world.  Voices of older women are especially significant for their perspective on decades lived, and lessons learned.  Writing a memoir is one vehicle for telling stories documenting the history and societal change we have been a part of creating!  Join OWL for a presentation on this unique form of getting voices of older women out into the world.

Program includes:

  • E. Eastman, writer, teacher, and memoir coach, who will talk about what a memoir is, its many forms, how to get started, and how to keep your project focused and engaging.
  • OWL member Melanie Grossman has just published her memoir, Crossing Bayou Teche.  She will share her own process in creating a memoir and new understandings gained, followed by selected readings.
  • Q&A period to follow.

Zoom Meeting link with telephone access will be sent prior to the meeting
