After years of dangerous Civil Rights activism, The Voting Rights Act of 1965 was enacted to secure the right to vote for racial minorities throughout the country, especially in the South.
In 2013 and again in 2021, The U.S. Supreme Court gutted this landmark legislation, resulting in:
- The closure of thousands of polling places, many of them in predominantly Black counties
- Eighteen states across the country enacting laws THIS YEAR making it harder for Americans to vote
- A significant increase in the number of citizens being illegitimately purged from voting rolls
