SITUATION: On August 29, the California Legislature passed SB 278, which will clarify the duties of banks to safeguard against financial fraud perpetrated on elder and dependent adults. It will strengthen abuse protections by holding institutions responsible for identifying fraud, notifying victims and delaying fraudulent transactions.
SB 278 currently sits on Governor Gavin Newsom’s desk, awaiting his signature.
SOLUTION: Call or write Governor Newsom, and insist that he sign this crucial bill. The hope is to generate as many calls and messages as possible, so call or write AGAIN and AGAIN to get SB 278 passed.
