OWL: The voice of midlife and older women; San Francisco Chapter

MISSION

ALL WOMEN'S ISSUES WERE NOT RESOLVED IN 1920

ALL WOMEN ACTIVISTS ARE NOT WILD-EYED RADICALS

WOMEN'S HEALTH CARE IS NOT ADEQUATELY COVERED

WOMEN'S ECONOMIC SECURITY IS NOT BASED ON THE CHARITY OF MEN

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT "THE SYSTEM" WAS NOT TAUGHT IN SCHOOL

In 1980, the founders of the Older Women's League saw the need for a nationwide organization to address the special concerns of midlife and older women. Since then, OWL has created a powerful and effective grassroots network that is dedicated to improving the quality of life for midlife and older women, through education, research and advocacy.

OWL's national priorities are:

  • Health Care

OWL is committed to the universal availability of the highest quality, affordable health care from birth to death. OWL supports an expanded and enhanced Medicare.

  • Economic Security

OWL works to ensure that all women have the tools with which to build and maintain their economic security now and in the future. OWL works for achieving workplace parity between men and women in wages, benefits, and conditions, and emphasizes economic security throughout life (with an emphasis on Social Security).

  • Quality of Life

Throughout life, women have the right to stay in control of their lives. The role of women as "caretakers" has been emphasized in recent years.

In support of these goals, OWL does extensive research and education and publishes informational studies and reports. OWL also brings issues to the attention of the public, other organizations, Congress, the White House, and government agencies, and works singly and with other groups to further its goals.
